Their Perfect Romance

We met through a friend. We had just finished building our house
when Fergus said he had a surprise for me. So we drove to
maroochydore airport and pulled into the heliport.I thought he had
organised a helicopter ride over our new home. We did fly over it
but then the helicopter flew us over the glasshouse mountains. I
began to be concerned as the pilot would turn off my radio and
only talk to Fergus. I  had visions of the helicopter crashing and was
relieved when we landed on mt ninderry. it was like standing on top
of the world and then my heart soared even higher when Fergus
brought out a ring and asked me to marry him. the pilot and Fergus
had been discussing Fergus’ concern that, as the helicopter had no
doors, he was worried he could lose the ring if he pulled it out of his
pocket while we were flying. afterwards, when looking through the
photos of the day, we realised that we must have left the camera on
the seat and the pilot took photos of the whole thing. So we have a
beautiful record of that moment.
Their ideal Wedding
We were engaged for 2 years because we decided to enjoy the
engagement season, which gave us time for making choices to create
our wedding unique. We had a traditional wedding with my family
priest marrying us. he has married all my siblings and also christened
us, so it was pretty special. We were married at maleny manor in
their recently built Pavilion, designed to give the feeling of being in an
outdoor chapel. We chose maleny manor because we actually flew
over it in the helicopter and I thought it looked spectacular.
Their Unique Choices
our colours were vintage chocolate, champagne and pink. I had 6
bridesmaids and Fergus had 6 groomsmen. the men wore black
suits with chocolate bronze vests. my dress was from an ‘off the
rack’ dress sale. it was really simple, pure silk and vintage.I took
it home and added gorgeous French lace and other trimmings
to really make it my creation. I wanted the whole classic Bronte
look and I was really happy with the results. We had bouquets
of honeymoon roses, chrysanthemums, berries and magnolias
created in a very unstructured bouquet.
after the ceremony, the reception started with champagne and
canapés under an old oak tree. our photographer nat from milque
Photography took candid shots from amongst the guests and we
continued our photoshoot with guests milling around.
For the sit-down reception, we had a full three-course meal,
including hot towels and sorbet in between courses. the tables
were set with beautiful candelabras. i made rosemary biscotti as
the bomboniere.I chose rosemary as it stands for remembrance
and fidelity.
We went to las Vegas for our honeymoon.I  had always wanted to
go to Paris so we stayed at the Paris hotel in Vegas. it was very
kitchy French with Parisian décor. •
