Real Life Wedding - Nicole and Phil

Thu Jun 17th 2010

Their Perfect romance:
We have been together for more than seven
years. so when we went to Europe for a six-
week holiday, I was pretty certain, I would
come back an engaged woman. Not so.
There wasn’t ‘the right moment’. Not in front
of the Eiffel Tower or on a gondola in Venice!
We came back home and then had a short
holiday on day dream Island. We were on a
remote beach with no one around and Phil
got down on one knee and proposed with an
Irish Claddagh ring he had bought in Ireland.
We later had a ring designed.
Their Ideal Wedding:
We got married on a very rainy New Year’s
Eve. I had always wanted fireworks at my
wedding and I knew for sure I would have them
if we picked that date. Also there will always
be fireworks on our wedding anniversary
and we are never going to forget to party!
We were married in the historical
sandgate Baptist Wedding
Chapel. Our
wedding was actually the final ceremony
before it closed its doors for good. One of
the highlights for me was when my 2-year-
old flower girl stepped into the aisle and saw
Phil standing at the front. she is my niece
and when she saw him she gave him a great
big wave and then ran down the aisle and
into his arms, something I would have like
to have done!
Their unique Choices:
The rain clouds and the heritage look of
the wedding chapel made an awesome
background for our photographer, Annette
from Antonietta’s Photographics. The photos
are just stunning. Because of the rain, we
had the rest of the photos taken at uQ and
its gorgeous sandstone walls. Annette was
fabulous, we never stopped laughing and
she was so much help throughout the whole
day.
We had our reception at the Victoria Park Golf
Complex Marquee. We were going to have
lamps lit to mark the entry into the reception

and also have a Cigar Lounge for the

men but the rain gave us the opportunity to
be flexible.
Being New Year’s Eve, I didn’t have too
much trouble finding everything I needed,
except the cake, so I went with scrumptious
cupcakes from shingle Inn.
Ironically it was the drought that made my
choice of flowers impossible. I really wanted
david Austen roses but even with the best
efforts, they weren’t possible.
At the reception we had a special table -a
Love table -with antique-framed wedding
photos of our parents and grandparents,
a guest book, an antique box for gift
donations.
We all watched the fireworks and saw in the
New Year.
Their Bridal Insights:
sleep in if you can, seize the day and
deliberately relax. start planning early and
put everything in a folder for easy reference.
