Their Perfect Romance
I was a reporter for A Current Affair, and saw Richard across a crowded
modelling agency party. A friend had dragged him to the party and
despite a lack of encouragement from those with us (he is way out of your
league; she’d never look twice at you) we exchanged phone numbers. On
our first date we realised we had something worth pursuing. One Sunday
morning, following a slight disagreement the night before, Richard woke
me up at 4.30am to go and see the sunrise! I am a reporter, I know what
a sunrise looks like; I didn’t need to see another. He would not be swayed,
so ‘reluctantly’ and without a happy face, I trudged down to Coogee Beach
with him; defiantly still in my boxers and singlet. He then said: ‘Let’s go for
a swim.’ My reaction: ‘Are you crazy?’ I agreed to go in up to my knees.
As the sun came up, I turned and there was Richard on one knee in the
water asking me to marry him. It was then I realised he was fully dressed
in soaking wet long pants and a dress shirt. When I said yes, he started
shouting to all the joggers etc. ‘She said YES!’
We had a beautiful ring designed by DA Robinsons in Brisbane from a
family stone given to us by Richard’s mother.
|
| Their Ideal Wedding | | We are Catholics, so chose a traditional mass at The Mary Immaculate | | church attached to Waverley College that Richard had attended. We have | | a lot of Queensland connections and one of them is the family priest who | | we flew down in order to marry us. This was followed by an exceptional | | reception at the Royal Motor Yacht Club at Pipers Point. The producer in me | | saw its photographic potential, enjoyment factor and with an award winning | | reception venue, we had the perfect place. Our guests are still praising the | | reception. We had roving entrées while everyone mingled, then sat down | | for main course and speeches. Roving desserts were later served even on | the dance floor.
| Their Unique Choices | | It was a black tie wedding with full morning suits. The bridesmaids’ | | dresses were steel grey with red high heels and flowers. My dress was | | from Airs and Graces of Brisbane. It had been recently entered in the | | RAQ awards, yet they were happy to make some changes even adding | | diamante straps. The vintage style dress was off-white. I asked my florist | | to choose blush pink David Austen roses but to make sure each rose was | | a different shade. | | Julien Star was the photographer at my sister-in-law’s wedding in Brisbane. | | I really appreciated his quiet nature and background photography style. | | This meant our photos are mostly natural and not posed. He captured our | | love so beautifully. | | Each guest received a handwritten personal letter, which were the place | | cards. The responses made the writers’ cramp worth it. For our interstate | | guests a bottle of Mighty Murray Red (our surname is Murray) greeted | | them at their accommodation a note saying how much we appreciated | | their efforts. | | We also set up a website for our guests, full of local information for eating, | | shopping and getting from their accommodation to the wedding. | | As gifts, we were given a luxury vehicle from a guest who runs a luxury | | vehicle company and our wedding was videoed by a cameraman, I used | | to work with. He is editing it in two versions - a short (men’s) version and | | the longer (ladies’) version. • |
